· In this interview, Janet Lauritsen, Ph.D., professor of criminology and criminal justice at the University of Missouri—St. Louis, explains the survey data collection process, the process for coding the different types of crime reported during the survey interviews, and the special types of crimes that the survey measures, such as series victimization.

Discussion: What methods does the survey use to collect data? How is that different from the UCR? What special types of crimes are included in the NCVS?
