Discussion 1 Sarah
Human Good is a senior housing provider located in seven states throughout the United
States (Human Good, n.d.-a). The organization has two distinct types of housing: Life
Plan Communities and Affordable Housing. The Life Plan Communities serve seniors
with varying levels of care, such as independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and
memory care. Affordable Housing provides independent living for seniors 55+ who have
limited income. The mission of Human Good is to “help older adults live their best lives
possible” (Human Good, n.d., -a, para 1). Human Good is one of the largest Affordable
Housing providers in the country and, as such, continually brings innovative services not
often provided within Affordable Housing.

The community for which the grant is being written is Fern Lodge, which is part of the
Affordable Housing side of Human Good in Redlands, California, and serves around
seventy residents in the 62 units (Human Good, n.d.,-b). Fern Lodge focuses on wellness
programming that will enhance the residents’ lives. Human Good partners with many
organizations in all of their service areas to provide health education and screenings, art
therapies, community referrals, and more.

Fern Lodge and Human Good are working alongside Rehab Alliance, a national
organization that provides physical, occupational, and speech therapies in medical
settings and senior living communities (Rehab Alliance, 2023). These organizations
already partner together in the Life Plan Community side of Human Good and are
looking to expand to Affordable Housing, starting with Fern Lodge to address the health
needs of the residents who suffer from arthritis, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes,
and back/spine issues. Human Good consistently strives to connect with outside
partnerships that will enhance the lives of the residents to live their best lives. In
partnership with Rehab Alliance, Human Good will focus on health and wellness for the
residents of affordable housing communities.
